Maps & Parking

Assembly Hall is north of the IU Bloomington campus at the northwest corner of 17th Street and Fee Lane. To locate Assembly Hall on Internet maps, use this address:

1001 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN 47408

Follow this link for a map of Assembly Hall parking. Construction projects under way around Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium will have an impact on traffic flow and parking at the May 3 Commencement festivities at IU Bloomington. We strongly urge family and friends who are attending either ceremony to plan for the delays caused by construction and congestion.

For the morning session, the doors of Assembly Hall will open at 8 a.m. Students must arrive by 8:30 a.m. The student procession will start at 9:15 a.m. and the ceremony promptly at 10:00 a.m.

For the afternoon session, the doors will open at 1:00 p.m. Students must arrive by 1:30 p.m. The procession will start at 2:15 p.m., and the ceremony promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Our best advice: arrive early. Our other recommendations:

  1. Allow enough time.
  2. Don’t count on finding the spot where you “always” park at Assembly Hall. That space may be gone, full or given over to construction.
  3. Use the following gates on Commencement Day
    1. No.4 (orange) and Nos. 5 and 6 (both crimson) on 17th Street
    2. No. 8 (also crimson) on Dunn Street.
  4. The following gates will be closed: No. 2 on 17th Street and No. 14 (both blue) on Fee Lane.
  5. Gate No. 13 (crimson) on Fee Lane is only for cars bearing a special IU-issued parking permit for passengers restricted to wheelchairs. No other vehicles will be admitted.
  6. Gate No. 4 (orange) is for cars bearing blue state-issued Handicapped-Access hang tags. Drivers will be directed to an appropriate parking area on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. Space is limited. Drivers are encouraged to drop off guests at the North Door and then park their cars. A limited number of golf carts bearing blue-and-white handicapped logos will be in the parking lots to assist with transportation.
  7. Gate No. 4 (orange) is also for cars carrying passengers with limited mobility. These guests should be dropped off at the North Door before seeking parking in the general lots.
  8. Grads will line up and process to Assembly Hall from Gladstein Fieldhouse. To get there, enter Gate 12 (green) off of Fee Lane, and go through the north Fieldhouse doors.
  9. Allow enough time.
